First of all, I HATE THIS! Am I allowed to start out like that? Am I allowed to throw a tantrum every time I have to promote my art? Well it certainly gives me a voice... Albeit a whiny one, it is a consistent recognizable voice.
And second of all, I LOVE THIS!!! Am I allowed to say that, in response to my own new body of work? If not, then I guess I am breaking all the rules. Because I do, I love my new series, "Salty Sweet Things". They are so... Salty Sweet! And I pretty much love that combo in any form... In food, attitude and now in art. I do Love some yogurt covered pretzels and Thai food--and I love so much to say mean things with my head and mouth while simultaneously loving you with all my heart. If you know me, you know that it is all done for love and laughing. It's true, I do this. It is a rare gift I have... Ok, so I like food and I am mean funny... Where was I going with this?
Ah, yes! My art! My new little lovelies. So these newbies are pretty much as cute-ish as my other work but they are slightly... Well, way more sassy--revealing, raw and abstracted. Weird little pastel grids, shapes and blocks correspond with messy cursive scribbles, scratches and lines of mini stories and sharp snippets of little secrets. Presented as neat little messes, layered with emotion and as always drenched in white paint, these Salty Sweet Things are my new favorite series to paint.
This is a HUGE show in a GREAT space. Featuring nearly 50 paintings, 30 of which are brand new! So come see the spectacle that is "Salty Sweet Things"!
